Franz Puchegger speaking of 4-day week: “It will come”

Juli 2022, Austria – Worthington introduces progressive workweek design

Sonnenaufgang Worthington Industries

NÖN: Is the four-day week a topic in your company?

Franz Puchegger: We are thinking of four-day week of course. Now we have a very attractive shift model in our production line where our workers are working less than the average 38,5h per week. In the salaried sector, we are discussing various options. But what is clear to me is that it will come at some point.

NÖN: Where does the wish come from?

Franz Puchegger: The wish came from our employee. However, we are open to this topic.

NÖN: Where does management see advantages and where disadvantages?

Franz Puchegger: Timo Snoeren, Vice President of Sustainable Energy Solutions at Worthington Europe, four-day week is an interesting subject. “However, there are still some issues to grapple with in terms of implementation, such as whether the fifth day will be incorporated, or which day should be the day off, and how that can be financed.”
